Compassionate Parkinson’s Care at Bixby Medical Group

At Bixby Medical Group, we care for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders with a thoughtful, personalized approach.

Parkinson’s disease can affect every person differently. During your visit, I take time to understand your symptoms, review your medical history, and perform a careful neurological examination. My goal is to help clarify the diagnosis and develop a treatment plan that supports your mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Many patients come to our office with new symptoms they cannot explain, or after receiving a diagnosis and wanting guidance about what comes next. We work closely with patients and families to help them understand the condition and the options available for treatment.

What Is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that affects movement and coordination. It develops when certain brain cells involved in movement begin to function differently.

Symptoms often develop gradually and may include:

  • Tremor or shaking

  • Slowness of movement

  • Muscle stiffness or rigidity

  • Changes in walking or posture

  • Balance problems

  • Reduced arm swing when walking

  • Softer voice

  • Smaller handwriting

Parkinson’s disease can also cause symptoms that are not related to movement, including:

  • Sleep disturbance

  • Constipation

  • Fatigue

  • Anxiety or depression

  • Brain fog or memory concerns

  • Reduced sense of smell

Because these symptoms can overlap with other neurological conditions, a detailed neurological evaluation is important.

Our Approach to Parkinson’s Care

Parkinson’s disease affects more than movement. During your visit we look at the full picture, including motor symptoms, sleep, mood, cognition, and daily function.

Your evaluation may include:

  • A detailed neurological examination

  • Review of your symptoms and medical history

  • Medication review and treatment adjustments

  • Assessment for Parkinson’s disease versus other forms of parkinsonism

  • Follow-up visits to monitor symptoms and adjust treatment when needed

The goal is to create a treatment plan that supports your day-to-day life and helps you continue doing the things that matter most to you.

At Bixby Medical Group, we evaluate patients with a variety of movement concerns, including:

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • Unexplained movement symptoms

If you are unsure what may be causing your symptoms, we are happy to evaluate you and help determine the next steps.

Treatment Options

Treatment for Parkinson’s disease is highly individualized. At Bixby Medical Group, we focus on a comprehensive approach that addresses both motor and non-motor symptoms while supporting long-term function and quality of life.

Treatment options may include:

  • Medication management to help improve tremor, stiffness, slowness of movement, and other symptoms

  • Adjustment and optimization of Parkinson’s medications as symptoms evolve over time

  • Focused ultrasound treatment for certain tremor conditions when appropriate

  • Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) evaluation and programming support for patients with implanted devices

  • Botox injections for dystonia, muscle tightness, and certain movement-related symptoms

  • Lifestyle and movement strategies to support mobility, strength, and balance

  • Dietary and gastrointestinal support, including management of constipation and other common Parkinson’s-related digestive concerns

  • A whole-person osteopathic approach, focusing on how the body functions as an integrated system

  • Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including your primary care physician, physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and other specialists when appropriate

  • Support resources, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and community support groups

Parkinson’s disease is a long-term neurological condition. Care often involves adjusting treatment as symptoms change. Our goal is to partner with patients and their families to create a plan that supports independence, safety, and quality of life.
